CH Spurgeon said “By perseverance the snail reached the ark.” If we are that snail, then our ark is having a full schedule in the ministry of evangelism. If a full schedule is God’s will for us, we have not yet reached that ark! Some evangelists’ schedules fill-up immediately when they step into evangelism, others struggle for years before they ever have a full-time schedule. It is also not uncommon for an evangelists’ meetings to dry up for a period of time.
In our last prayer letter we rejoiced over our busiest time in evangelism thus far, but also knew that the coming months would be dark ones for us. We want to thank you for your prayers and the way that many of you reached out to encourage us. Indeed, we are coming through – hopefully the tail end – of the most discouraging time in our ministry to date. Being called to preach for the cause of revival in our local churches, but not having meetings to do so is a very humbling and discouraging circumstance. If I told you I never thought of quitting, I would be lying to you. Yea, though I hate that dirty little four letter word – quit – I found myself closer to giving up than I ever had before. What made the difference? Well, certainly not my own fortitude that I used to pride myself in until this, and certainly the circumstances have not changed completely. It was only the grace of God that made the difference. The Lord provided the grace to persevere when Satan’s whisperings were the loudest. And now, for the time, I no longer hear Satan whispering: “quit….quit….quit.”
Let me tell you a story of how, after God provided His supernatural grace to remain faithful to what He has called me to do, He provided a little extra boost of encouragement.
While down at the Sword of the Lord Conference this past July Evangelist Don Jasmin spoke with me and at the end of that conversation he said he wanted to put an advertisement for us in his paper – “The Fundamentalist Digest”. I never heard anything more of that until a few weeks ago I received a call from a pastor in Maine who wanted to book a revival meeting with us in July. He said that he saw our advertisement in “The Fundamentalist Digest”. This meant, and means so much to us. Sometimes it’s nice to have a little prodding from the Lord who says: “keep going….keep going….keep going.”
Over the next few months the Lord has opened doors for us to schedule meetings for pulpit supply. Please pray for us that doors like this will continue to open. Our church has been so kind to provide us the funds to place an advertisement in the Sword of the Lord. Please pray that we will get responses from this. Meetings….meetings….meetings! When you think of us, please pray for that. And when you pray for us regarding the meetings we do have, please pray that all that we do will be Spirit filled.
Our minivan, I’m afraid, is on its last leg. Pray that the Lord would provide a replacement vehicle in the right time. Also, please pray for Bethany. I don’t know if I’ve announced this but we are expecting our 3rd little girl in June. We want to praise the Lord for providing employment for me. This is a work from home in early morning and late night hours so it doesn’t interfere with our ministry. It will provide a little extra financial padding and is something that I could potentially continue to do even with a full schedule in evangelism.
